Completion is the last legal hurdle you face. You will need to have given all the money required for the purchase, less any deposit you have paid already, to your solicitor, who will pay it to the person selling the property. Once payment has been confirmed, you will be given the keys to your new home by the estate agent.

If you are buying and selling in a chain the whole process is complex as each deal is dependent upon the next one in the chain and your deal cannot go ahead unless the rest do.

If you are buying and selling at the same time it is essential to ensure that both transactions complete at the same time otherwise you could either find yourself homeless or paying a mortgage on two properties.
